Area Law Enforcement
Roughly fifty cars have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Law enforcement say they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Police then located numerous other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report initial examinations show the liquid was probably human blood.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; authorities are presently not cognizant of any harm in association with the event," they added.
City officials said they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the residents for tips.
A senior official said the incident left him stunned and had to be solved rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he wrote on a platform, referring to the murder of nine people by a shooter aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
